Here are 7 frequently asked questions for catering any event, from office lunch meetings to backyard BBQs…
Q: I’ve got a date set for my party. How soon is too soon to place my catering order?
A: When it comes to planning a big party or catered event, the answer to this is honestly: It’s never too soon. Being prepared is one of the best ways to keep your stress level at bay when figuring out the details. At Crispers, we ask that you place your order at least 24 hours in advance when utilizing our Order by Invitation option or when you want your order delivered. But we think that would probably be a pretty good rule to follow for any catering needs, especially if the order you plan to place is a large one.
Q: Twenty-five people are coming to my party. How can I be sure I order enough food?
A: On average, a regular sized catering platter (from most restaurants that offer catering) serves around 10 people. We’ve found that for a catered lunch, you should offer a main entree (around 5 oz. or 1-2 sandwiches) with 2-3 sides and a dessert. If you’re catering a dinner, plan on offering a main entree (around 7 oz.) and 2-3 sides, maybe a bread of some sort, and a dessert.
Q: I have guests coming to my party that have food allergies. How do I meet their dietary needs and still ensure the food is good for everyone?
A: Having friends who are vegetarian, gluten free, or just watching what they eat isn’t uncommon today. Being a host that considers the needs of everyone invited is important. The easiest way to do this, if you aren’t sure who exactly on your list needs a special menu, is to have at least one or two options that can be deemed both vegetarian and gluten free, the ol’ kill-two-birds-with-one-stone approach. At Crispers, you can order a SuperFood Salad and do just that!
Q: What about the kids in attendance? They can sometimes be picky eaters.
A: Kids (and even some adults) are definitely picky eaters at times. If you don’t feel like the restaurant you are using to cater has a good selection of foods that would appeal to that kind of eater, you could always take tried and true kid favorites and offer a smaller menu for them. Or just take the food you are planning on serving and make it appealing to your picky eaters in other ways, like these.
Q: Do I have to supply plates, napkins, silverware, and other things like that when I have an event catered? Or do most restaurants supply these for catering orders?
A: If you’re anything like us when it comes to party planning, the more that can be outsourced, the better. If you’re using a restaurant that ISN’T supplying the tableware, we suggest looking elsewhere. It’s a common practice that most any restaurant offers, and such an easy way for you to save time and money.
Q: Is there something special I should look for when choosing where I will place my catering order?
A: We’ve already covered dietary needs above, but catering with a restaurant that offers vegetarian, gluten free, and other diet-specific options is always a plus. At Crispers, we offer both vegetarian and gluten free options, and quite a few of them at that. Finding a restaurant that has other catering benefits like delivery or rewards programs (like the Crispers VIP program) is key, too, especially if you frequently host catered events.
Q: When I dine at a restaurant I tip my server. Should I leave a tip for a catering order, too?
A: As with any tip you leave, whether it be for the server at the restaurant you dined in last night or the bellboy who helped you with your luggage the last time you stayed at a hotel, how much you leave is a personal preference. The same thing goes for tipping on a catering order. Is this a business order? Find out if your corporate spending policy allows for a tip, because you know any tip is always appreciated.
